Kagami Taiga is the powerhouse power forward and ace player of Seirin High. Standing tall with dark red hair, split-ended eyebrows, and an imposing athletic build, Kagami returned to Japan after spending his middle school years in America, bringing back an intense passion and aggressive style of basketball.
As the new "Light" to Kuroko Tetsuya's "Shadow," Kagami possesses phenomenal jumping power that allows him to execute breathtaking dunk variations, such as the Meteor Jam, and engage in high-flying aerial defense. Hot-headed and stubborn yet fiercely loyal to his team, his unwavering drive to defeat the Generation of Miracles propels him to repeatedly push past his physical limits and enter the legendary Zone.
NAME ETYMOLOGY
Kagami (火神): The kanji 火 (Ka) means "fire", representing his hot-headed nature and blazing passion on the court. The kanji 神 (Gami / Kami) means "god" or "spirit." Together, his surname translates to "Fire God," mirroring his fierce, high-flying playstyle.
Seirin Naming Pattern: Following a hidden theme where Seirin's core roster members feature a day of the week in their surnames, Kagami's 火 represents Tuesday (火曜日, Kayōbi).
Brothers: 火 is fire and Taiga is a homophone for "tiger." Himuro's name carries ice (氷) and dragon (辰). Fire and ice, tiger and dragon — the Eastern yin-and-yang pair — paint the two brothers as opposite sides of the same coin.
Taiga (大我): The kanji 大 (Tai) means "big" or "great." The kanji 我 (Ga) means "self" or "ego." Together, his given name means "Big Ego" or "Great Self," reflecting his stubborn confidence and ambition to become the best player in Japan. His name is also a homophone for the English word "Tiger" (タイガー), fitting his wild, predatory motif.

Q1: How do you spend your days off?
Kagami: Mostly sleeping... going to buy clothes, and taking Number 2 for a walk... Huh? Hey, you're the one who told me to do it!
Q2: What got you into basketball?
Kagami: Probably because Tatsuya invited me.
Q3: Who in the Generation of Miracles are you closest to?
Kagami: No way! Getting along is totally out of the question!
Q4: For that matter, who in the Generation of Miracles do you dislike the most?
Kagami: Everyone, really - but especially Midorima. He's such a weird guy!
Q5: What's your favorite memory from middle school?
Kagami: The first time I pulled off a dunk... I was absolutely pumped!
Q6: Who are you closest to on your current team?
Kagami: I don't know if we're exactly close, but I probably spend the most time with Kuroko. We sit right in front of and behind each other, after all.
Q7: What's your type?
Kagami: Huh...! A... a ladylike... woman, maybe...?
Q8: What do you enjoy most, besides basketball?
Kagami: Eating.

Q1: [Appearing suddenly out of nowhere] Kagami-kun, congratulations on winning 1st place [in the Power Forward poll]. How do you feel right now?
Kagami: Whoa! Don't just pop out of nowhere, Kuroko! Well, of course I'm happy! After all, taking 1st place means I beat Aomine!
Q2: What do you think is your greatest strength?
Kagami: My strength...? Hmm, I'm not picky about food at all, so probably the fact that I eat a lot.
Q3: Is there anything you would like to improve about yourself going forward?
Kagami: ...Studying. In the end, my scores on the second proficiency test, midterms, and finals for the second term were all terrible... (sigh).
Q4: Is it safe to assume the opponent you hate losing to the most is Aomine-kun?
Kagami: Don't just make assumptions! ...Well, that's true, but honestly, I don't want to lose to anyone.
Q5: Looking back on the Winter Cup, how do you feel right now?
Kagami: It felt amazing!
Q6: You come from a wealthy family, Kagami-kun—what kind of work does your father do?
Kagami: I don't really know the details, but he does corporate management consulting centered in America.
Q7: Surfing is one of your hobbies, Kagami-kun. Could you tell us what makes surfing so appealing?
Kagami: Riding the waves has a unique thrill that's totally different from basketball. Rather than feeling like win or lose, it feels like becoming one with the wave itself.
Q8: What is your specialty dish? Please make it for us next time!
Kagami: You just want to eat it yourself, don't you?! ...Well, gyoza. Whenever I make it, I freeze over 100 at a time and store them, so eat those. The effort doesn't change either way."
Q9: Please tell us your goals for the future.
Kagami: Winning every tournament, of course! Especially Inter-High. Since we lost in the qualifiers and couldn't compete, next time we'll definitely qualify and win!
