VISUAL DEMONSTRATION: FREE-THROW LINE LEAP & OVER-THE-RIM THROW
TECHNIQUE OVERVIEW
The Meteor Jam is Kagami Taiga's ultimate dunking technique, taught to him by Alexandra Garcia. By jumping from near the free-throw line using his maximum left-leg vertical lift, Kagami soars over rim protectors and instead of touching the rim directly, hurls the ball straight through the net from above with incredible downward force—resembling a meteor strike.
CORE MECHANICS
- Free-Throw Line Launch: Kagami takes off far outside the key, using forward momentum and left-leg power to gain extraordinary mid-air altitude.
- No Rim Contact: Rather than risking a block at rim level, he throws the ball downward through the hoop, bypassing rim-protecting hands entirely.
- Zone Synergy: Executing the Meteor Jam requires precise calculation of trajectory and power, making it far more consistent when Kagami is in the Zone.
LIMITATIONS & COUNTERS
- High Elevation Prerequisite: Cannot be performed if Kagami's stamina or leg strength is compromised, as it demands his peak vertical jump height.
- Calculated Arc Dependency: Because the ball is thrown rather than dunked by hand, any disruption to his jump trajectory throws off the angle completely.
- Emperor Eye Interception: Akashi Seijūrō successfully stopped it by predicting Kagami's takeoff step and stripping the ball before he could leap.
KEY MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
- Origins & American Training: Developed during summer training under Alexandra Garcia to give Kagami an unblockable option against giant interior defenders like Murasakibara.
- Seirin vs. Yōsen (Winter Cup Quarters): Kagami debuts the Meteor Jam while in the Zone, launching over Murasakibara Atsushi's defense to score the decisive basket.
- Seirin vs. Rakuzan (Winter Cup Finals): Used to keep pace with Rakuzan's offensive waves, forcing Akashi to step up and stop the motion at its takeoff point.
