OVERVIEW
Mayuzumi Chihiro is Rakuzan's third-year power forward and phantom sixth man. 182 cm, a 10/10 special mark, and almost no presence: Akashi recruited him as another Kuroko.
He wanted to disappear more than he wanted to play. Misdirection made him useful. Kuroko overwrites him in the Winter Cup final anyway—and Mayuzumi is the one who later tells Akashi to wake up.
NAME ETYMOLOGY
Mayuzumi (黛): The kanji 黛 means "eyebrow black" or "to paint the eyebrows"—a faint mark, easy to miss.
Substitute shadow: The character 黛 can be read as 代 ("next," "change," "substitute") plus 黒 ("black" — the first character of Kuroko, and the story's word for "shadow"). 代 + 黒 = the next shadow.
Chihiro (千尋): The kanji 千 (Chi) means "thousand" and 尋 (Hiro) is a fathom—depth you cannot see from the surface.

OFFICIAL KUROFES INTERVIEW

Q1: [Appearing suddenly out of nowhere] Mayuzumi-san, congratulations on taking third place [in the PF poll]. How do you feel right now?
Mayuzumi: ...Gah! Tsk, oh, thanks. ...No, I'm not talking to you. Well, it's about what I expected.
Q2: What do you think is your greatest strength?
Mayuzumi: Knowing my own place.
Q3: So, is there anything you would like to improve upon in the future?
Mayuzumi: Not particularly. I think I'm fine just as I am.
Q4: Who do you want to lose to the least?
Mayuzumi: Who else could it be but the guy right in front of me who completely outmaneuvered me in the match?
Q5: Looking back at the Winter Cup, how do you feel now?
Mayuzumi: Whatever. That's just how it is. Well, we ended up losing. I'm not exactly in a good mood.
Q6: Please tell us your favourite light novel title and author.
Mayuzumi: I don't really follow any particular works or authors. I just like that distinctive style that's different from ordinary novels.
Q7: Have you ever been influenced by light novels?
Mayuzumi: Maybe I've gotten better at sarcasm
Q8: We heard that overclocking is your special skill, but do you like messing with PCs?
Mayuzumi: I wouldn't do something so niche if I didn't like it.
Q9: Please tell us your goals for the future.
Mayuzumi: Entrance exams, I guess. Basketball? No way - I'm done with that. Besides, I never really set a goal for myself in club activities before. Well, it's not like I'm quitting for good, so maybe I'll return to it someday.
Q10: Please give a message to your fans.
Mayuzumi: I'm surprised there are eccentrics out there who are actually fans of mine, but I do want to thank them. That said, it's not like I intend to go out of my way to do anything special from here on - but if you're fine with that, I look forward to your continued support.
