TECHNIQUE OVERVIEW
Misdirection is a psychological technique adapted from sleight-of-hand magic tricks. Rather than physical speed or raw agility, it relies on manipulating opponent perception, optical focus, and court presence to render the user completely unnoticed on the floor.
CORE MECHANICS
- Gaze Direction: Redirecting defender attention toward ball handlers or high-threat targets.
- Minimal Contact Time: Redirecting passes in under a fraction of a second so defenders never trace the ball's origin.
- Low Presence: Maintaining a completely passive demeanor to minimize visual awareness on court.
LIMITATIONS & RISKS
- Time Limit: Loses effectiveness over time as opponents gradually adjust to the user's presence.
- Scoring Penalty: Attempting to shoot or drive draws direct attention, rapidly draining misdirection capability.
- Observant Defenders: Players with high-level vision or instinct (e.g. Takao) can bypass the effect.
