VISUAL DEMONSTRATION: THE BALL THAT IS NOT THERE
TECHNIQUE OVERVIEW
Executed with flawless mechanics, the Mirage Shot is Tatsuya Himuro's signature moveset in Kuroko's Basketball, built entirely on high-level timing and deception. By releasing a quick, subtle decoy toss early in his jump, Himuro tricks defenders into jumping for an early block, only to catch the ball mid-air and shoot his actual release as they begin to descend. To an opposing player, the ball appears to pass harmlessly through their hands like a phantom, rendering standard defensive timing completely ineffective.
CORE MECHANICS
- Two-Throw Motion: Himuro releases a subtle decoy toss early in his jump to draw the block, then catches and shoots the ball on his way down.
- Perfect Form: His shooting mechanics are so fluid and exact that the initial decoy looks indistinguishable from a standard jump shot.
- Choice of shot: Himuro can choose to shoot the ball on either the first or second release, meaning even if you know the trick, you can't stop the shot.
LIMITATIONS & RISKS
- Physical Reach Deficits: Elite defenders with extreme jump height and reaction speed (like Kagami) can jump late enough to intercept the actual release.
- Requires Precision: Because it relies on extreme air control and exact timing, any physical disruption before the leap ruins the two-throw execution.
KEY MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
- Yōsen vs. Seirin (Winter Cup Quarters): Official debut. The Mirage goes through Kagami and Hyūga. Aomine, in the stands, gets faked from a seat.
- Same match: Kagami throws the brotherhood ring away, stops guessing, and blocks the next Mirage by jumping for so long that it stifles both shots.
