TECHNIQUE OVERVIEW
The Lightning Dribble is Uncrowned King Hayama Kōtarō's signature move — earning him the title "Raijū" (Thunder Beast). By transferring tremendous force through his fingertips directly into the ball, he produces a deafening, thunderous bounce. The speed and intensity of his drive scale with the number of fingers used, accelerating the ball until it becomes a blur impossible for standard defenders to track.
CORE MECHANICS
- Fingertip Force: Hayama slams the ball into the court using extreme pressure from his fingers, making the ball bounce back instantly at high speed.
- Three / Four / Five Levels: Three fingers generate enough speed to blow past most players. Five fingers represents his max speed, causing the ball to bounce so fast it emits a loud boom and turns virtually invisible.
- Cheetah Instinct: Complemented by his wild Animal Instinct, Hayama combines his ultra-fast dribble with high-speed footwork to cut past defenders effortlessly.
LIMITATIONS & COUNTERS
- Eagle Spear Timing: Shun Izuki can swipe the ball away with Eagle Spear if he predicts the exact moment of contact on a slower (3-finger) dribble.
- Funneled Traps: The 5-finger version is too fast to read visually. It requires double-teaming or positioning (such as Kagami cutting off a drive lane) to force Hayama into a predictable path for a back-strip steal.
- Predictable Cut-offs: High-level defenders who refuse to react to the sound or motion can focus on cutting off Hayama's body path rather than attempting to steal the ball directly.
KEY MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
- Rakuzan vs. Seirin (Winter Cup Finals): Hayama easily passes Izuki using his 3-finger dribble until Izuki times his Eagle Spear to poke the ball loose.
- Breaking the 5-Finger Dribble: Unlocking his 5-finger level, Hayama easily overpowers Izuki. Seirin adapts by having Kagami help limit Hayama's options, allowing Izuki to use Eagle Eye to steal the ball from Hayama's blind spot.
