OVERVIEW

Sakurai Ryō is Tōō's first-year shooting guard. Light brown hair, hunched shoulders, and a permanent apology—Hyūga nicknames him the apologetic mushroom. He whispers sorry even when the three goes in.

His quick-release shot is so fast the contest is late, and when another shooter is on the floor he flips into a clutch personality as arrogant as Hyūga's. Imayoshi's line: when it comes to shooting, Sakurai really hates to lose. Aomine steals his bento and still names him the teammate he is closest to.

NAME ETYMOLOGY

Sakurai (桜井): The kanji 桜 (Sakura) means "cherry blossom" and 井 (I) means "well."

Tōō Naming Pattern: Following a hidden theme where Tōō's core roster members are named after shrines and temples in Japan, 桜井神社 (Sakurai Jinja) is a shrine in Hyōgo.

Ryō (良): The kanji 良 (Ryō) means "good" or "virtuous."
