OVERVIEW

Imayoshi Shōichi is Tōō Academy's third-year point guard and captain. Messy black hair, usually-closed eyes, a Kansai drawl, and a smile that never quite means well make him the guy who holds a team of specialists together.

Hanamiya calls him a demon at reading minds—and the nastiest guy he has ever met. Imayoshi talks opponents into mistakes, hits buzzer-beaters from well behind the arc, and still finds time to soothe Sakurai and keep Wakamatsu from punching Aomine. After the Winter Cup he retired and handed the captaincy to Wakamatsu.

NAME ETYMOLOGY

Imayoshi (今吉): The kanji 今 (Ima) means "now" and 吉 (Yoshi) means "luck" or "good fortune."

Tōō Naming Pattern: Following a hidden theme where Tōō's core roster members are named after shrines and temples in Japan, 今吉神社 (Imayoshi Jinja) is a shrine in Tottori.

Shōichi (翔一): The kanji 翔 (Shō) means "to soar" and 一 (Ichi) means "one."
