OVERVIEW
Midorima Shintarō is the former vice-captain of the legendary Generation of Miracles at Teikō Junior High and the current shooting guard and ace of Shūtoku High. Tall and composed with distinctive dark green hair, glasses, and taped fingers, Midorima is renowned as the undisputed greatest shooter in the series, capable of making baskets with absolute precision from anywhere on the court.
Extremely stoic, prideful, and methodical, Midorima lives by his belief in doing everything humanly possible ("Man proposes, God disposes"). His unwavering commitment to preparation includes meticulously wrapping his left hand's fingers, maintaining his form, and strictly adhering to daily horoscopes by carrying outlandish lucky items. On the court, his incredible Full-Range Three-Pointer allows him to shoot high-arcing shots from anywhere—even the opposite baseline—with 100% accuracy as long as his shot is untouched.
NAME ETYMOLOGY
Midorima (緑間): The kanji 緑 (Midori) means "green," matching his hair color and traditional Generation of Miracles color theme. The kanji 間 (Ma) means "space," "interval," or "distance," cleverly hinting at his long-distance shooting range across the entire court.
Teikō Naming Pattern: Following a hidden theme where Teikō's core names are colors, Midorima's 緑 is "green."
Shūtoku Naming Pattern: Following a hidden theme where Shūtoku's core roster members are named after mountains in Japan, Midorima is the odd one out — except for 緑岳 (Midori-dake) in Hokkaido, which shares his 緑.
Shintarō (真太郎): The kanji 真 (Shin) means "truth," "real," or "genuine." The kanji 太 (Ta) means "great" or "thick," and 郎 (Rō) is a traditional suffix for a male name, usually meaning "son." Altogether, his given name reflects his earnest, serious nature and devotion to absolute precision.
ICONIC QUOTES
"There's no shame in falling down. True shame is to not stand up again."
"There's no way I wouldn't be aware of how many shots I'm capable of. My limit... I passed it long ago."

Q1. [Appearing suddenly out of nowhere] Midorima-kun, congratulations on taking 1st place [in the Shooting Guard poll]. How do you feel right now?
Midorima: ... Ngh...!... Thank you. It wasn't something I was aiming for, but I'm happy about it nonetheless, nanodayo.
Q2. What do you consider your greatest strength?
Midorima: I never cut corners on anything.
Q3. So, is there anything you'd like to improve on in the future?
Midorima: If I have the time, I'm thinking of learning a bit about cooking. I was laughed at by Takao about it once, you see.
Q4. Who is the opponent you least want to lose to?
Midorima: Two people come to mind immediately. Akashi and Kagami, nanodayo.
Q5. Looking back on the Winter Cup, how do you feel now?
Midorima: I have regrets. Or rather, perhaps I should say it was frustrating.
Q6. Since when did "nanodayo" become your catchphrase?
Midorima: I don't remember such a thing, nanodayo... hmm. (He only realised it once it was pointed out, and was a little embarrassed by saying it right after.)
Q7. Surprisingly, you are skilled at the piano - but what is your repertoire like?
Midorima: It consists mostly of famous classical pieces, though lately I have been keeping sheet music for jazz and pop songs as a way to unwind.
Q8. I was surprised to hear you have a younger sister; what kind of things do you usually talk about?
Midorima: Nothing particularly unusual. I guess it's pretty much the same everywhere. Things like what happened today, looking up lucky items, and finding out how to get them, etc.
Q9. Please tell us your goals moving forward.
Midorima: I have no desire to lose to anyone, but I am absolutely determined to defeat the teams I mentioned earlier - the ones featuring Akashi and Kagami. In other words, Rakuzan and Seirin.
Q10. Please give a message to your fans.
Midorima: I give my sincere thanks for being chosen as first in the SG category. I will continue to do my absolute best so that I can take first place again next time.
