Kawahara Kōichi is a first-year guard at Seirin High and one of the three freshmen who join alongside Kuroko and Kagami. He spends most of the series on the bench, but he is a constant presence at practice, on the sideline, and in the team's daily chaos.
Together with Furihata and Fukuda he represents Seirin's expanding first-year class: not miracle players, but teammates who keep the gym loud, fetch supplies, and grow by watching Hyūga, Izuki, and Kiyoshi work.
NAME ETYMOLOGY
Kawahara (河原): The kanji 河 (Kawa) means "river" and 原 (Hara) means "field" or "plain," literally "riverbank."
Kōichi (浩一): The kanji 浩 (Kō) means "vast" or "abundant," and 一 (Ichi) means "one," a common male given-name ending.
