OVERVIEW
Furihata Kōki is a first-year point guard at Seirin High. Nearly Kuroko's height, easily intimidated, and painfully aware of the gap between himself and national-level aces, he still becomes one of the team's most important bench weapons.
Riko subs him in against Kaijō to slow the game down. His cautious, teammate-first pace lets Seirin reset and even earn him his first official basket. In the Winter Cup finals he is thrown in front of Akashi—Aomine calls it a chihuahua versus a lion—and still manages an ordinary, practiced mid-range shot when Mayuzumi leaves him open.
NAME ETYMOLOGY
Furihata (降旗): The kanji mean "fallen flag" or "surrendered banner." Read aloud, the surname can also be pronounced the same as his given name, Kōki.
Kōki (光樹): The kanji 光 (Kō) means "light" and 樹 (Ki) means "tree," a quiet contrast to a player who starts terrified and still walks onto the court.
