Ogiwara Shigehiro is Kuroko's childhood friend and Meikō Junior High's small forward — the boy who taught Kuroko how to play after Kuroko fell in love with the sport on television.
Teikō beat Meikō 111–11, making Ogiwara quit basketball. However, in the Winter Cup final, he is the voice in the stands that pulls Kuroko back when the team is about to lose hope. He lifts up a basketball, showing he never really stopped loving it.
NAME ETYMOLOGY
Ogiwara (荻原): The kanji 荻 (Ogi) is a kind of reed, and 原 (Wara) means "field" or "plain."
Shigehiro (シゲヒロ): Written in katakana in the official materials — a soft, friendly given name for the series' kindest rival.
