OVERVIEW

Kobori Kōji is Kaijō's third-year center and the tallest starter on the floor at 192 cm. A calm face, and almost no wasted motion make him the quiet opposite of Hayakawa next to him.

He is Kaijō's rim protector and help defender: he walls off Kagami's first dunks, rotates when Kise over-helps, and finishes the simple plays Kasamatsu creates. Mitobe later names him as the player he has his eye on. After the Winter Cup he entered the same university as Kasamatsu, in a different department.

NAME ETYMOLOGY

Kobori (小堀): The kanji 小 (Ko) means "small" and 堀 (Bori) means "moat" or "canal"—a defensive name for a center who lives in the paint.

Kaijō Naming Pattern: Following a hidden theme where Kaijō's core roster members are named after rivers in Japan, 小堀川 (Kobori River) is in Aomori.

Kōji (浩志): The kanji 浩 (Kō) means "vast" and 志 (Ji) means "will" or "ambition."
